Do I Really Need A Dental Implant?

People are tempted to do this, especially if it’s a tooth located at the back of their mouth and you can’t really see it. Unfortunately, there are some long term consequences  with not taking care of a missing tooth.
When you lose teeth, the bone in your jaw that supported the tooth starts to shrink. The sockets recede, and over time the bone will deteriorate.
Not only does the bone shrink, but as that process continues, it can result in the shifting of your other teeth, leading to a domino effect of tooth loss. While dental restorations like bridges can slow the shifting of teeth, they do not prevent bone loss and eventually can also result in tooth loss.
Dental implants will stop bone loss by replacing the lost roots of your teeth. This means that your bone structure will be better preserved, and you’ll be saving the rest of your teeth as well.

What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are small titanium posts that are about the size of the roots of your natural teeth. The dental implant is placed in your jaw bone and fills the role of your missing root.
Implants are threaded on the inside and outside, so once your implant is placed, we are able to finish it with a variety of dental restorations.

After the post is implanted and your mouth has healed, Dr. Workman attaches the new replacement tooth, or crown, to the metal post permanently. The implants fuse to your jawbone, so they’re strong, stable, and don’t shift in your mouth. These metal posts also work to help dentures, crowns, and bridges stay firmly fastened to your jaw.

What are the advantages of dental implants?

In addition to functioning, feeling, and looking like your natural teeth, dental implants offer the following advantages:
  • Are durable and strong for eating your favorite foods
  • Are permanent and can last a lifetime
  • Offer an economical solution to replacing missing teeth
  • Ensure the health of your jawbone
  • Allow you to speak comfortably and naturally
To know for sure if a dental implant is right for you, it's best to come in for a consultation. You can call us at 770-276-9680. You may also request a consultation below:

Who is a good candidate for dental implants?

Most people with missing teeth are candidates for dental implants. The most important factor is if you have enough bone in your jaw to support the implant. Even if your bone has deteriorated, Dr. Workman may still be able to perform dental implant surgery by using bone grafting to rebuild the jaw.

How Expensive is a Dental Implant?

The out-of-pocket cost for dental implants depends on each patient’s exact needs and dental insurance plans, which may help significantly lower your cost. However, the average fee for a dental implant is usually between $2,000 and $3000 inclusive of placement of the dental implant, the crown (tooth), the abutment (the part that connects the crown and the implant), all parts, lab fees, and the dentists' fee.

If you’re ready to take the next step to the life you deserve, we will work with you to fully understand out-of-pocket costs, insurance coverage, and monthly financing options to help so you can help fit a new smile and renewed mouth health into your budget.
